Boswell??

Skylar won her school spelling bee this year and was able to go to the district spelling bee, which was this past Saturday in little Washington. It surprised us that she was up against middle-schoolers and even a high-schooler or two. The winner of this spelling bee receives a trip to Washington DC to compete in the national spelling bee. When we realized this, we knew that it was going to be difficult.

In the first round, Skylar correctly spelled "cosmetic". Three or four kids got out in each group of spellers called to the stage. In the second round, the kids were dropping like flies. Skylar received the word "Boswell" and spelled it with a "z". She wasn't too upset, though. A lot of the words given out were truly hard words to spell, and I think she realized that she was doing pretty well just to be there in the first place. She was given a t-shirt and two copies of the Washington, NC newspaper which had her photograph in it.
In the pictures, Skylar is the smallest one on stage. She's #6.

Skylar's cousin, Leslie-Grace, and George's mom were in the audience with us to cheer her on.
